P097
Transaxle Range Switch Circuit:
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
This diagnostic test is to detect the vehicle transaxle being placed in gear under conditions that may cause damage to the vehicle powertrain or create an unsafe condition. When such a condition exists, Code P097 is set and engine power will be reduced by disabling fuel to individual cylinder.
DIAGNOSTIC CIRCUIT CHECK
^ This code indicates a transition from park/neutral to drive/reverse has occurred at a high throttle angle
^ Check for an intermittent open or short to ground on CKT 434.
^ Check for an intermittent open on CKT 451
^ Check adjustment of park/neutral position switch.
^ Check for intermittent terminal contact at park/neutral position switch terminals "A" and "B", and/or Powertrain Control Module (PCM) terminal "2D9."
^ This code can be driver induced by shifting from park or neutral to drive or reverse with a throttle angle of 20 degrees or greater.
TEST CONDITIONS
1. Codes P021 and P022 not set.
FAILURE CONDITIONS
1. Gear selection from Park or Neutral to Drive or Reverse.
2. Vehicle speed less than 6 mph.
3. Engine speed greater than 2000 rpm.
4. Throttle angle of 20 degrees or greater (if Code P097 is already stored in history, use a throttle angle of 16 degrees or greater).
5. Condition 1 through 4 are valid for 0.3 seconds.
ACTION TAKEN
1. "Reduced Engine Power" message is displayed on the Driver Information Center (DIC).
2. PCM will disable fuel to individual cylinders to reduce engine power.
