DTC 71 EBTCM Internal Malfunction






Circuit Description

The EBTCM performs various diagnostic checks on itself. If it finds a problem, Code 71 will set.

DTC will set when

1. EBTCM internal error is detected.
2. Pump motor relay failure.
3. Valve relay failure.
4. Open in motor power circuit 1042 to EBTCM terminal 2.
5. Maxi Fuse 5 open.

Action Taken

1. Code set.
2. ABS and TCS switched "OFF".
3. "ANTILOCK" indicator ON.
4. "TRACTION DISABLED" message displayed.

Test Description

Test numbers refer to circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.
1. Checks for proper system voltage at motor input.
2. Checks for good connections from the hamess to the EBTCM itself.
3. Checks to see if the fault was false. If Code 71 resets, replace the EBTCM.
