DTC 61

DTC 61 BPM Valve Pump Motor Malfunction

Circuit Description

The pump motor is an integral part of the BPM Valve, while the pump motor relay is integral to the EBTCM. The pump motor relay is not engaged during normal system operation. When antilock or traction control operation is required, the EBTCM activates the pump motor relay and battery power is provided to the pump motor. A failure of the pump motor relay will set code 71.

DTC will set when

DTC 61 will set with an open in the motor power circuit, an open in the motor ground circuit, or a short to power that will cause the motor to run continuously.

Test Description

Test numbers refer to circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.

1. Checks for proper motor grounding.
2. Checks for proper voltage to motor.
3. System voltage is not present, checks for an open fuse.
4. Checks motor for proper operation.
5. Maxi-Fuse is good and system voltage is not present, therefore the problem exists in power distribution before the fuse block or in CKT 1042 going to the EBTCM.
6. Most likely cause is the EBTCM, however there is a remote chance that the BPM is at fault.

Action Taken

1. Code set.
2. ABS/TCS switched "OFF".
3. "ANTILOCK" indicator "ON".
4. "TRACTION DISABLED" message displayed.

Diagnostic Aids

It is very important that a through inspection of the wiring and connectors be performed, especially the grounds.
