DTC P117: Part 3 Of 3:

Transaxle Solenoid Circuit:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
This diagnostic test monitors the Shift "A" and Shift "B" outputs from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and increments a counter when the output is different than what is commanded. When the counter reaches 10, Code P117 is set. If at any time before the counter reaches 10 and the output is the same as what is commanded, the counter will be reset to zero.

TEST CONDITION
"Closed Loop" fuel control is enabled.

FAILURE CONDITION
Shift "A" or Shift "B" output is different than what is commanded 10 consecutive times.

ACTION TAKEN
PCM turns "ON" the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (Service Engine Soon).

NOTES ON FAULT TREE:
(Part 1 of 3)
1. Checking if Code P029 is also set because indicates a Shift "B" solenoid problem.
2. Checking if Code P094 is also set because it indicates a Shift "A" solenoid problem.
3. Checking which gear is selected when fault occurs to determine possible faults.
4. Checking for a short to voltage on CKT 1222 or by looking at gear ratio when code sets.
5. Checking CKT 741 and fuse "D1" for an open.
6. Checking CKTs 741 and 1222 (trans harness side) or transaxle Shift "A" solenoid for an open.
7. Checking for a short to ground. If resistance is 1000 ohms or less, the short is inside the transaxle. If resistance is greater than 1000 ohms, the short is between "C129" and PCM.

(Part 2 of 3)
8. Checking for a short to voltage on CKT 1223 by looking at gear ratio when code sets.
9. Checking CKT 741 and fuse "D1" for an open.
10. Checking CKTs 741 and 1223 (trans harness side) or transaxle Shift "B" solenoid for an open.
11. Checking for a short to ground. If resistance is 1000 ohms or less, the short is inside the transaxle. If resistance is greater than 1000 ohms, the short is between "C129" and PCM.

(Part 3 of 3)
12. Checking if Shift "A" solenoid is functioning properly using PCM output and PCM status light.
13. Checking if Shift "B" solenoid is functioning properly using PCM output and PCM status light.
14. Checking if PCM is receiving voltage.
15. Checking for an open or short to ground on CKT 741 outside of transaxle.
16. Checking CKTs 741 and 1222 or Shift "A" solenoid for open.
17. Checking for a short to ground. If resistance is 1000 ohms or less, the short is inside the transaxle. If resistance is greater than 1000 ohms, the short is between "C129" and the PCM.
18. Checking CKTs 741 and 1223 or Shift "B" solenoid for an open.
19. Checking for a short to ground. If resistance is 1000 ohms or less, the short is inside the transaxle. If resistance is greater than 1000 ohms, the short is between "C129" and PCM.
