DTC 83: Low Brake Fluid Level:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The IPC outputs 5 volts on CKT 209 to the brake fluid level sensor. The IPC determines the level of brake fluid by the voltage drop it detects across the sensor circuit. This information is delivered to the EBTCM via the serial data line.

TEST CONDITION(S)
1. Tested continuously.

FAILURE CONDITION(S)
1. While Standing or Driving: Brake fluid falls below acceptable level.
2. Brake fluid level sensor disconnected.
3. Open, short to ground or short to battery on CKT 209.

ACTION TAKEN
1. Code set.
2. ABS and TCS switched "OFF."
3. Red BRAKE warning lamp and "ANTILOCK" indicator "ON."
4. "TRACTION DISABLED" message "ON."

TEST DESCRIPTION
Test numbers refer to circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.
1. Check the brake fluid level in master cylinder reservoir.
2. Check brake fluid level as detected by IPC.
3. Brake fluid level not acceptable. Fill and recheck.
4. Brake fluid level as detected by IPC. See "DIAGNOSTIC AIDS."
5. Checks IPC input parameter ID80 with sensor disconnected for a short to ground in CKT 209, or bad sensor.
6. Checks IPC input parameter ID80 with sensor disconnected and connector shorted.
7. IPC detects acceptable brake fluid level. Problem not present.
8. Checks sensor resistor and checks for a short between CKTs 901 and 51.
9. Checks for open in CKTs 209 and 51.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
IPC data parameter ID80 will display the following:
^ 3.6-5V - open in sensor circuit.
^ 1.5-3.5V - circuit OK. Problem not present.
^ 0-1.4V - short between CKTs 209 and 51.
