Manual Transmission Shift Lever and Selector Lever Cable Adjustment

Removal Procedure




1. Remove the mat (1).

2. Gently remove the instrument panel lower center compartment liner (2) using a suitable plastic tool (3). Refer to Instrument Panel Lower Center Compartment Liner Replacement Instrument Panel Lower Center Compartment Liner Replacement.

3. Shift the transmission into NEUTRAL.

4. Loosen the transmission control lever boot from the front floor console and lift the boot over the lever knob. Refer to Transmission Control Lever Knob Replacement Transmission Control Lever Knob Replacement.




5. Unlock the cable lock adjusters (2) by pushing back the spring force loaded black sliding ring (1) until self-locking. One for each cable




6. Disengage control lever retaining ring (1) by pressing both latches (3), while sliding up retaining ring until loose.

7. Pull up on the reverse lockout retaining tab (2) and lift the reverse lockout device to release it from the installed position.




8. Lock the position of the shift control lever by rotating the reverse lockout device with the following instructions:

1. Rotate complete shift control lever assembly 180° so the reverse inhibitor button on lever is facing toward the rear.

2. Secure integral pins (2) on reverse lockout device in holes located on shifter base (3) by pushing downward on device until seated.

3. Engage the reverse lockout device tab by pushing downward on the reverse lockout device until fully seated.

9. Remove the engine control module and the engine control module cable bracket from the battery tray and lay aside.





Note: Failure to follow these steps could result in mis-adjustment of the shift lever cable.

10. Block the shift control housing:

1. Remove all debris from the locking pin (1) to allow for full engagement in the shift control housing.

2. Push the selector lever (3) rearward enough to fully engage the locking pin (1).

3. Push the locking pin (1) toward the shift control housing.

4. Ensure that the locking pin tabs (2) are fully seated and locked into place on the shift control housing detents.

Adjustment Procedure





Note:

* During this procedure DO NOT touch or preload the fixed shift lever as this may cause mis-adjustment to the shift system.

* The lock adjuster on the driver side is accessed through the hole (3) at top of shift housing using an adequate tool.

* When locking the adjuster locks (1) a defined snap noise should be audible, a snap effect should be felt.

1. Secure the shift lever and selector lever cable adjuster locks (2), by pushing down the 2 locking pieces (1) WITHOUT touching / preloading the locked shift lever.




2. Pull up on the reverse lockout retaining tab (1) and lift the reverse lockout device to release it from the locked position.




3. Turn the transmission control lever knob 180° so the reverse inhibitor button on the lever is facing toward the front.

4. Install the transmission control lever knob.

5. Engage the reverse lockout device tab by pushing downward on the reverse lockout device until fully seated.

6. Slide the transmission control lever retainer ring (1) downward until fully seated. Confirm that there is a visible gap between the control lever knob and the reverse inhibitor button (arrows).





Note: When unblocking the locking pin (1) a defined snap noise should be audible / a snap effect should be felt.

7. Unblock the shift control housing:

1. Push the selector lever (3) rearward.

2. Pull the locking pin (1) away from the shift control housing.

3. Ensure that the locking pin tabs (2) are fully seated and locked into place on the shift control housing detents.

8. Check the correct shifting function.

9. If necessary repeat the adjusting procedure.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the engine control module cable bracket and the engine control module to the battery tray.




2. Install the transmission control lever boot into the front floor console. Refer to Transmission Control Lever Knob Replacement Transmission Control Lever Knob Replacement.

3. Check correct shifting function. Ensure that the reverse gear cannot be engaged without the use of the reverse inhibitor button.

4. Install the instrument panel lower center compartment liner (2) to the front floor console. Refer to Instrument Panel Lower Center Compartment Liner Replacement Instrument Panel Lower Center Compartment Liner Replacement.

5. Install the mat (1).
