Starter Motor: Service and Repair




Starter Replacement (2.0L LHU)

Removal Procedure

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.

2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.

3. If equipped, remove the front compartment splash shield. Refer to Front Compartment Insulator Replacement Service and Repair.




4. Disconnect the starter wiring harness plug (5).

5. Remove the starter and generator positive cable nut (1) and the starter and generator positive cable (2).

6. Remove the starter nut (4) and the starter ground cable (3).




7. Remove the starter bolt (2).

8. Remove the starter stud (3).

9. Remove the starter (1).

Installation Procedure




1. Install the starter (1).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

2. Loosely install the starter bolt (2).

3. Loosely install the starter stud (3).

4. Tighten the starter bolt to 58 Nm (43 lb ft).

5. Tighten the starter stud to 58 Nm (43 lb ft).




6. Install the starter ground cable (3) and the starter ground cable nut (4). Tighten the nut to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).

7. Install the starter and generator positive cable (2) and the starter and generator positive cable nut (1) and tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb in).

8. Connect the starter wiring harness plug (6).

9. If equipped, install the front compartment splash shield. Refer to Front Compartment Insulator Replacement Service and Repair.

10. Lower the vehicle.

11. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
