Battery Positive and Negative Cable Replacement

Remove Procedure

1. Remove the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.





2. Unlock the retaining tab (1) on the battery fuse box cover.

3. Use a suitable screwdriver (2) to unlock the clip (4) through the window (3).





Note:
Pull the battery fuse box housing. DO NOT pull the flap.

4. Open the battery fuse box cover (1)

5. Remove the battery positive to starter cable nut (2).

6. Remove the battery positive to starter cable (3) from the battery.





7. Remove the negative cable nut (1).

8. Remove the negative cable (2).

9. Unclip the starter and generator positive cable from the engine wiring harness and from the oil level indicator tube.

10. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.





11. Remove the starter and generator positive cable nut (2) and the starter and generator positive cable (3).

12. Remove the starter bolt (5) and the starter ground cable (4).





13. Fold the generator cap (2) aside.

14. Remove the starter and generator positive cable retaining nut (3) and the starter and generator positive cable (4).

15. Remove the starter and generator positive cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the starter and generator positive cable to the vehicle.





Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

2. Install the generator positive cable (4) and the generator positive cable retaining nut (3) and tighten to 17 Nm (13 lb ft).

3. Fold the generator cap (2) to the generator positive cable terminal.





4. Install the starter ground cable (4) and the starter bolt (5) and tighten to 58 Nm (43 lb ft).

5. Install the starter and generator positive cable (3) and the starter and generator positive cable nut (2) and tighten to 17 Nm (13 lb ft).

6. Lower the vehicle.

7. Clip in the starter and generator positive cable to the engine wiring harness and to the oil level indicator tube.





8. Install the negative cable (2).

9. Install the negative cable nut (1) and tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb in).





10. Install the battery positive to starter cable (3) to the battery.

11. Install and tighten the battery positive to starter cable nut (2).





12. Close the battery fuse box cover and lock the retaining tabs (1) and (4).

13. Install the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
