Camshaft: Testing and Inspection

11 31 005 Checking the camshaft timing (M57T2-SCR)

Special tools required:





Necessary preliminary work:
^ Remove cylinder head cover

Crank engine at central bolt.

The cams on the camshafts (1) of the 1st cylinder point in the direction of travel to the right.

Remove protective cap in direction of arrow.

Installation Note:
Reinstall protective cap with some grease.





Secure the crankshaft in the TDC setting with special tool 11 6 080.

Important!
Do not turn the engine back.
Special tool 11 6 080 must be removed before starting engine.

Attach special tool 11 6 321 to the intake camshaft (1).





Note:
Special tool 11 6 321 must lie flush on cylinder head.





For a better overview, this operation is shown without the vacuum pump.

Attach special tool 11 6 321 to the exhaust camshaft (1).

Note:
Special tool 11 6 321 must lie flush on cylinder head.

If necessary, adjust camshaft timing.





Assemble engine.
