Camshaft: Adjustments
11 31 505 Adjusting timing (M57T2-SCR)Special tools required:
Necessary preliminary work:
^ Removing cylinder head cover
The cams on the intake camshaft at the 1st cylinder point downwards.
Release screw (1).
Note:
Bolt (1) must be removed beforehand as it is no longer accessible in TDC setting.
Tightening torque 11 31 1AZ.
Remove protective cap in direction of arrow.
Installation Note:
Reinstall protective cap with some grease.
Crank engine at crankshaft with special tool 11 6 480.
Secure crankshaft at flywheel with special tool 11 6 080.
Important!
Do not release screws (2).
Release camshaft sprocket bolts (1).
Tightening torque 11 31 1AZ.
Marking (1) on intake camshaft must be flush with cylinder head.
Marking (2) on exhaust camshaft must be flush with cylinder head.
It is possible to effect turning at the hexagon head of the exhaust camshaft in order to set the gear wheels.

Mark (1) on intake camshaft gear must be between marks (2) on exhaust sprocket wheel.

Position special tool 11 6 321 on intake camshaft and secure with special tool 11 6 322.
Installation Note:
The exhaust camshaft only has to be checked, setting is not possible.
Secure sprocket bolts (1).
Tightening torque 11 31 1AZ.
Installation Note:
Crank engine at central bolt through 360°.
The third sprocket bolt is now accessible.
Secure third sprocket bolt.
Check timing.
Remove all special tools.
Assemble engine.
