Valve Spring: Service and Repair

11 34 715 - Replacing all valve springs (M57T2)





Special tools required:
- 11 9 000 11 9 000 Device
- 11 9 001
- 11 9 005
- 11 9 006
- 11 9 008
- 11 9 009
- 11 9 011
- 11 9 015






Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove cylinder head Removal and Replacement.
- Disassemble cylinder head Overhaul
- Place cylinder head on special tool 11 9 001.





Place special tool 11 9 008 with straight surface on combustion chamber side of cylinder head (see illustration).

Note:
Procedure for all 4-, 6- and 8-cylinder diesel engines.





Insert special tool 11 9 006 and lock with special tool 11 9 005 in direction of arrow.





Lock special tool 11 9 005 in direction of arrow.
Move cylinder head with special tool 11 9 000 through 180° into installation position.





Align special tool 11 9 009 in direction of valve shaft. Select corresponding groove in special tool 11 9 015.
Press valve spring down on spring retainer at top with special tool 11 9 009.
Hook in with special tool 11 9 011.





Remove valve cones.
Remove valve spring and plate spring.





Installation sequence:
1. Valve
2. Valve stem seal
3. Valve spring
4. Top plate spring
5. Valve cotters





If necessary, replace valve stem seals Service and Repair.
Assemble engine.
