51 71 412 - Removing and installing rear spoiler
Special tools required:
- 51 0 010
Note:
The rear spoiler is mounted with different retaining elements, depending on the build date of the rear window.
Lever out plugs (1 to 3) and release retaining elements underneath(screws, expander rivets, nuts).
Pull rear spoiler (1) towards rear slightly and feed out of guides (2).
Tilt rear spoiler (1) upwards, remove cover (5) and disconnect plug connections underneath.
Disconnect hose (4) for spray nozzle and remove rear spoiler (1).
Installation:
If shims (3) are fitted, they must not be missing and existing retaining elements must be reused.
When replacing rear window, do not reuse shims (3).
Fit rear spoiler (1) so that mounts can slide into associated guides (2).
Installation:
Adjusting screw (2) must not be missing or damaged, replace if necessary.
Replace white slide elements (1).
Replace slide elements (3).
The correct slide elements (3) must be fitted, depending on the rear lid build date (see next work step).
- Build date up to 09/2005 M7 black slide nut
- Build date from 10/2005 M8 gray sliding piece
Build date up to 09/2005:
In case of rear window with hole (1), clip (2) and M7 slide nut (3) must be fitted on left and right.
Clip (2) and M7 slide nut (3) must be replaced.
When replacing rear window/rear spoiler:
Clips (2) and slide nuts (3) must be adapted to existing build date of rear window.
Build date from 10/2005:
In case of rear window with elongated hole (1), expander element (2) and M8 sliding piece (3) must be fitted on left and right.
Expander element (2) and M8 sliding piece (3) must be replaced.
When replacing rear window/rear spoiler:
Expander element (2) and slide nuts (3) must be adapted to existing build date of rear lid.
Observe installation sequence:
1. Tighten down screws (1)
Tightening torque, 51 71 1AZ Specifications.
2. Adjust rear spoiler (see next work step)
3. Tighten down nut (3)
Tightening torque, 51 71 1AZ Specifications.
4. Secure expander rivets (2)
Make sure expander rivets (2) are correctly seated
Adjusting rear spoiler:
Observe gap dimensions .
Press on rear spoiler (1) and measure negative protrusion of rear spoiler (1) to rear window (2) with special tool 51 0 010 .
A= - 1 ± 1 mm
If necessary, adjust rear spoiler (1) by means of adjusting screw (3).
