64 53 517 Removing And Installing/replacing Desiccant Insert For Heating And Air Conditioning System

Special tools required:







WARNING:
Danger of injury.
Refrigerant circuit is under high pressure.
Follow safety information for handling R 134a tetrafluorethane refrigerant.
Avoid contact with refrigerant and refrigerant fluid.
Follow safety information for handling refrigerant fluid.







IMPORTANT:
Risk of damage.
Restart engine only when air conditioning system has been correctly filled.
Follow notes for replacing desiccant cartridge.







NOTE:
Follow notes for opening and replacing parts in refrigerant circuit.
If air conditioning system is opened for more than 24 hours:
Replace desiccant insert for heating and air conditioning system.

IMPORTANT:
The desiccant insert can only be replaced in vehicles with production dates up to 12/08.
In vehicles after 12/08, the heating and air conditioning system capacitor must be replaced.







Necessary preliminary work:
- Drain off air conditioning system
- Remove cross connection upper part







Release screws (1).
Tightening torque 17 10 2AZ.







Carefully pull capacitor (1) with dryer flask (2) forward out of left module carrier (3).
For further operation, protect cooling fins between capacitor and radiator, for example with a cloth (2).
Cloth (2) simultaneously serves as a fixture.
If necessary, pierce label on dryer flask.







NOTE:
For purpose of clarity capacitor shown removed in following work steps.

Remove protective cap (1) from capacitor for the heating and air conditioning system (2).







Press sealing cap (1) inwards and remove circlip (2).







Remove the sealing cap (2) from capacitor of the heating and air conditioning system (3) with an inserted screw (1).







Installation note:
Renew sealing rings (1) of sealing cap (2).
Use special tool 00 9 030 to install sealing rings without damaging them.







Remove desiccant insert for heating and air conditioning system (1) in direction of arrow from capacitor of the heating and air conditioning system (2).







NOTE:
If the heating and air conditioning system remains open for longer than one hour, the refrigerant lines must be sealed off with seal plugs.
In event of warranty application, seal pipe aperture with seal plugs of new dryer flask.







After installation:
- Evacuate and fill heating and air conditioning system
