51 44 011 - Removing and installing or replacing roofliner (with slide/tilt sunroof)





Special tools required:
- 54 1 230 Tools and Equipment





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove sun visors and counter-supports Service and Repair
- Remove mirror lights Removing and Installing/Replacing Mirror Light
- Remove ceiling light (front) Removing and Installing/Replacing Complete Ceiling Light (Front)
- Remove front roofliner trim 51 44 ... - Removing and installing front roofliner trim
- Remove panels for front roof pillar Removing and Installing/Replacing Panel for Roof Pillar at Front (A-Pillar), Left or Right (A-pillar trims)
- Remove grab handles 51 16 480 Removing and Installing or Replacing Front Grab Handle





- Remove panels for top door pillar Removing and Installing/Replacing Trim on Left or Right Door Pillar (Top) (B-pillar trims)
Note:
Do not release seat belt screw on front seat. Guide panels (1) with lined side to seat in downward direction
- Remove panels for rear roof pillar Removing and Installing/Replacing Trim for Rear Left or Right Roof Pillar (Front) (C-pillar trims)
- Remove ceiling light (rear) Removing and Installing/Replacing Complete Ceiling Light (Rear)
- Remove rear roofliner trim Service and Repair
- Remove cover for 3rd brake light Service and Repair





Open slide/tilt sunroof (1) completely.
Release screws (2) on mounting frame (3).





Version 1:
Slide floating roofliner (1) behind headliner (3).
Release remaining screws between mounting frame and glass sunroof cover with special tool 54 1 230 Tools and Equipment.
Release screw on mounting for bracket at rear.
Version 2:
Connect BMW diagnosis system and Service function:
- Body
- Locking and security functions
- Slide/tilt sunroof
- Select delivery position.
Remaining screws on mounting frame are now accessible and can be released.





- Move both front seats forwards as far as possible.
- Move driver's seat backrest as far forwards as possible.
- Move passenger seat backrest as far back as possible.





To provide protection, cover inner side edge on driver's seat (1) with adhesive tape (2).





Important!
Remove roofliner with a second person helping.

Pull roofliner (1) forwards out of sliding clips (2).





Note:
The subsequent procedure applies to right-hand drive cars.

Lower front roofliner (1) and turn at rear towards door.





Remove roofliner (1) on driver's side through rear door.





Installation:
Following parts of roofliner (7) must not be damaged or missing:
(1) - Mounting for console, front
(2) - Metal nuts for cover frame
(3) - Mounting for console, rear
(4) - Mountings for sliding clips
(5) - Sliding clips (if necessary, release from roof frame)
(6) - Retainers (if necessary, insert in roof frame)





Installation Note:
Observe following installation sequence:
1. Carefully attach headliner at rear.
2. Secure screw on mounting for bracket
3. Screw down screws for sunroof frame
4. Screw down grab handles at front on left/right
5. Screw down sun visors and counter supports
6. Screw down grab handles at rear on left/right
