Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair

18 40 020 - Removing and installing/replacing right exhaust manifold (S85)





Warning!
Scalding hazard!
Only perform these tasks on an engine that has cooled down.





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Secure engine in installation position with special tool Securing Engine in Installation Position
- Remove complete exhaust system Service and Repair
- Remove left control sensor Replacing Right Lambda Oxygen Control Sensor
- Remove left monitor sensor Replacing Right Oxygen Monitor Sensor (S85)
- Drain off engine oil Engine Oil Service
- Lower front axle support
- Remove right engine support arm Replacing Right Engine Support Arm
- Remove right electric oil pump

Note:
For purposes of clarity, the following work steps are shown on the engine after it has been removed.





Unfasten screws.
Remove heat shield (1).





Unfasten screws.





Unscrew nuts.
Remove exhaust manifold (1) downwards.

Installation Note:
Tightening torque 18 40 1AZ 18 40 Exhaust Manifold.
Replace nuts.
Replace seals.
