Removing and Installing / Replacing Middle Seal on Convertible Top Compartment Lid (Top/Connected)

51 17 005 - Removing and installing/replacing middle seal on convertible top compartment lid (top/connected)





Removal:
- Open convertible top compartment lid with convertible top stowed.

- Open convertible top compartment cover.

- Slacken nuts (1) (do not release fully).

- Pull out seal (2) between trim (3) and convertible top compartment lid (5).

Installation:

- Slide in seal (2) between trim (3) and convertible top compartment lid (5) until 1st rib (4) of seal (2) is still just visible.

Note:
It is essential to adjust the seal in relation to the rear window before tightening down the nuts (1).





Ideal adjustment:
Prerequisite:
- Convertible top correctly Adjustments adjusted
- Convertible top compartment lid correctly Adjustments adjusted
- Rear window module correctly Removing and Installing/Replacing Rear Window Module adjusted

Note:
It must still just be possible to slide in a paper strip between the rear window and the seal.





Adjusting seal:
- Close soft top compartment cover.
- Close rear window.
- Slide in paper strip (1) (copier paper = 80 g/m2) between rear window (2) and seal (3).
- Pull paper strip (1) over entire width of rear window (2).

Note:
It must be possible for the paper strip (1) to be pulled with a slight friction resistance between rear window (2) and seal (3).
If necessary, move seal (3) until ideal adjustment is obtained.





- Close convertible top and convertible top compartment lid.
- Close rear window.
- Slide in paper strip (3) between rear window (2) and seal (3).

Note:
It must still just be possible for the paper strip (3) to be slid in over the entire width of the rear window (2).
If necessary, move seal (1) until ideal adjustment is obtained.

Important!
Seal (1) must not exert excessive pressure on rear window (2) otherwise the rear window will not be correctly guided in the side convertible top guides (water ingress/wind noises).
- Open convertible top and convertible top compartment lid.
- Tighten nuts.

Installation:
