Valve Guide Seal: Service and Repair
11 34 560 - Replacing all valve stem seals (N73)
Special tools required:
- 11 1 380 11 1 380 Assembly Sleeves
- 11 3 380 11 3 380 Screwdriver Socket Torx T50
- 11 6 370 11 6 370 Puller
- 11 6 380 11 6 380 Bush
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove left cylinder head cover [1][2]Removing and Installing/Sealing Left Cylinder Head Cover.
- Remove right cylinder head cover Removing and Installing/Sealing Right Cylinder Head Cover.
- Remove inlet and exhaust adjustment unit on left side Removing and Installing/Replacing Inlet and Exhaust VANOS on Left Side (N73).
- Remove inlet and exhaust adjustment unit on right side Removing and Installing/Replacing Inlet and Exhaust VANOS on Right Side (N73).
- Remove left intermediate lever Removing and Installing/Replacing Left Intermediate Levers (N73).
- Remove right intermediate lever Removing and Installing/Replacing Right Intermediate Levers (N73).
- Remove left exhaust camshaft Removing and Installing/Replacing Left Exhaust Camshaft.
- Remove right exhaust camshaft Removing and Installing/Replacing Right Exhaust Camshaft.
- Remove left cylinder head Removing and Installing Left Cylinder Head (N73).
- Remove right cylinder head Removing and Installing Right Cylinder Head (N73).
- Remove all valve springs Service and Repair.
Press special tool 11 6 370 11 6 370 Puller onto valve stem seals.
Withdraw valve stem seals by turning and simultaneously pulling with special tool 11 6 370 11 6 370 Puller.
Fit special tool 11 1 380 11 1 380 Assembly Sleeves.
Fit new valve stem seals (1).
Installation:
Apply a light coat of oil to valve stem and valve stem seals.
Note:
For use on the N62 and N73 engines, special tool 11 6 380 11 6 380 Bush must be remachined in accordance with the illustration with a 6.2 mm dia. drill bit to a depth of A = approx. 45 mm.
This modification has already been taken into account for reordering.
Press on new valve stem seals with special tool 11 3 380 11 3 380 Screwdriver Socket Torx T50 by hand up to stop.
Assemble engine.
