Replacing linkages (both) for convertible top drive unit
Open side windows.
Position clamping bracket and convertible top lid vertically, microswitch S2 actuated.
Drive rod, convertible top main pillar:
Replace:
Unfasten screws and washers and lift out drive rod (2).
Adjustment:
Unfasten screw and washer.
Installation:
Secure screw with Loctite 270, (sourcing reference BMW Parts Service).
Unfasten lock nut and shank screw.
Disconnect front drive rod (2) on convertible top.
Pull convertible top drive rod (2) in direction of travel until it locates firmly (long slot).
Rotate angle joint in half turns (= 0.75 mm) until the shank screw can be screwed into the main pillar of the convertible top without any distortion.
Tighten down angle joint.
Secure length adjustment with lock nut.
Fit screw with washer at back.
Drive rod on clamping bracket:
Replace:
Remove left trunk trim and partition wall, Trunk Trim
Disconnect drive units, Initializing EM Convertible Top After Emergency Release (Convertible Top Unlocked)
Unfasten screw and washer.
Installation:
Secure screw with Loctite 270 (Source of Supply: BMW Parts).
Unfasten screws and washers.
Disconnect convertible top drive rod (2) at back and place to one side.
Disconnect drive rod on clamping bracket (4) and pull forwards.
Installation:
Secure screw with Loctite 270 (Source of Supply: BMW Parts).
Pull clamping bracket drive rod (4) upwards with lever (3) and remove.
Adjustment:
Unfasten lock nut and disconnect clamping bracket drive rod (4) by pulling forwards.
Pull clamping bracket drive rod (4) forwards, i.e. in direction of travel, until the roller locates firmly in the fork of the drive lever.
Adjust the length of the clamping bracket drive rod (4) by complete turns until the DU bush on the clamping bracket drive rod (4) can be installed on the convertible top linkage pin.
For this, the clamping bracket must be in its top limit position (mechanical detent).
Fit screw with washer and tighten with lock nut.
