Removing and Installing Propeller Shaft

REMOVING AND INSTALLING PROPELLER SHAFT






Remove exhaust assembly Service and Repair
Unscrew heat shield.






Unscrew propeller shaft on the transmission.

Installation:






Replace stop nuts, Tightening torque.


Note: Only tighten nuts or bolts on the flange end whenever possible by design, to avoid tension in the joint disc.







Version with Front Universal Joint:

Support transmission with Special Tools 24 0 120 and 00 2 020.

(BMW 750/with 4-HP-24 Transmission) Use Special Tool 24 0 130.

Unscrew cross member.






Unscrew nuts.

Installation:
Replace stop nuts.
Tightening torque.







Version with Constant Velocity Joint:

Unscrew propeller shaft on final drive.







Installation:
Check gasket, replacing if necessary.

Note: The constant velocity joint is not encapsulated. Keep dirt out of joint with a transporting cap or similar Item. Check the grease filling.







Installation:
Replace stop nuts.
Tightening torque.






Unscrew center mount.

Installation:
Preload center mount in forward direction by distance A = 2 to 4 mm (0.079 to
0.157")







Bend propeller shaft down and pull out of centering pin on transmission.






Note: Never let the propeller shaft fall Into the joints. This would crush the rubber sleeve on the constant velocity joint in particular.






Installation:
Check center, lubricating with Moly
kate Longterm 2 if necessary.
Replace a damaged center.





Note:The vibration damper is mounted on the transmission end output flange. Turn the vibration damper 60° for removal.
