Description of On-Board Diagnostic System
Notes on the BMW DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM:Ensure the ADV motor does not run with the anti-blocking function active during simulation of the outputs *D* SIMULATE OUTPUTS.
The defect code memory of the central body electronics (ZKE) is cleared automatically during simulation of the outputs. Field detection of a defect code is
then possible only when the ADV motor is activated by operating "wash" in the vehicle with the anti-blocking function.
An active anti-blocking function cannot be canceled by the BMW DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM (see Functional Description)
The defect code memory can detect and store the following defect codes.
1. ADV switched oft by anti-blocking function.
2. ADV relay does not pull up or sticks.
The text display anti-blocking function active in defect code 01 indicates that the anti-blocking function is currently defective.
ADV detected as "not installed":
After the supply voltage has been applied (terminal 30 at Pin A1), the ZKE general module checks whether the diagnostic link for the ADV module (Pin D25) is
connected to ground. If the input is open, the ADV is detected as "not installed".
If the general module is installed with the vehicle battery connected, undefined contacting when plugging in the module can result in the input being detected as open and thus the ADV as "not installed".
If an ADV system is installed in the vehicle but is not detected by the diagnostic program, disconnect the vehicle battery for at least 5 seconds.
If the ADV system is still detected as "not installed" after reconnecting the vehicle battery (and reselecting ZKE!), perform troubleshooting in accordance
with defect code 02 (relay in ADV module defective).
Troubleshooting:
Notes:
- Troubleshooting with the BMW DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM
- Battery charged, U-min = 12 V
- If all central body electronics (ZKE) functions have failed (central locking system, power windows, windscreen wiper pressure control and windscreen wiper and washer system), carry out troubleshooting in accordance with Central Body Electronics (ZKE).
- If, in addition, the windscreen wiper or the windscreen washer system has failed, carry out troubleshooting in accordance with Section 6160.OA.
Important!
When the supply voltage is applied (terminal 30 at Pin A1), the ZKE general module detects which part systems are installed in the vehicle. Undefined
contacting when plugging in the module can result in systems not being detected. Therefore:
Disconnect vehicle battery before installing a ZKE general module!
Or
Disconnect vehicle battery for at least 5 seconds after installing a ZKE general module.
