Lateral Accelerometer: Service and Repair
ESP Sensor Unit
The ESP Sensor Unit (G419) is susceptible to strong vibrations and impacts. Strong vibrations and impacts can damage the ESP sensor unit. If the ESP sensor unit has fallen on the floor, correct function is no longer ensured and the unit should not be installed.
- After the ESP sensor unit is replaced, basic setting (calibration) must be performed on:
• Transverse Acceleration Sensor (G200)
• Rotation Rate Sensor (G202)
• On AWD vehicles, Longitudinal Acceleration Sensor (G251)
Removing
• The ESP sensor unit is installed on the center console under the selector lever trim.
- Remove center console trim.
- Disconnect electrical connector.
- Remove bolts.
- Remove the ESP sensor unit upward.
Installing
Installation is the reverse of removal, with special attention to the following:
Calibrate transverse acceleration sensor and, on AWD vehicles, longitudinal acceleration sensor. For this, use the Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system (VAS 5051).
- On display, select:
• Chassis
• Brake system (Repair group 01;45)
• 01- On Board Diagnostic (OBD) capable systems
• 03- Brake electronics ABS/ESP Mark 60
- Select desired function on display.
• Calibrate transverse acceleration sensor.
• Calibrate longitudinal acceleration sensor (only AWD vehicles).
- Perform ESP driving and system test.
