Camshaft Oil Seal: Service and Repair
Exhaust Camshaft Seal
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Seal Puller - General Useage (2085)
• Retainer (3036)
• Assembly Tool (T10071)
• Puller (T40001)
• M12 nut, quantity: 2
Procedure
• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Valvetrain Overview ] Valvetrain Overview
- Toothed belt, removing. Refer to => [ Toothed Belt ] Toothed Belt.
- Loosen the camshaft toothed belt sprocket bolt with the (3036).
- Remove the camshaft toothed belt sprocket with the (T40001) and the claws (T40001/6) and (T40001/7).
- To guide seal puller, thread adapter (2085/2) in camshaft by hand until stop.
- Loosen the inner section of the (2085) two turns (approximately 3 mm) from the outer section and secure it with the knurled bolt.
- Lubricate the seal remover threaded head, position it, and then install it into the shaft seal as far as possible using strong force.
- Loosen knurled bolt and turn inner part against camshaft until seal is removed.
- Secure the seal remover in a vise at the flat spots and remove the seal using pliers.
- Clean the shaft seal running and sealing surfaces.
• Do not oil the sealing lip and the outer edge of seal before installing.
- Cover the groove on the camshaft cone with adhesive tape - arrow -.
- Place two M12 nuts - 1 - under the bolt head (T10071/4).
- Press the shaft seal with guide sleeve (T10071/3) and bolt (T10071/4) in as far as the stop.
• Make sure the fitting key for the camshaft toothed belt sprocket is seated correctly.
Risk of damaging valves and piston crowns.
• If camshafts are being rotated, crankshaft may not rest with any piston at "TDC".
• The engine must be no more than warm to touch.
- Tighten the camshaft toothed belt sprocket bolt with the (3036).
- Install toothed belt (adjust timing) => [ Installing (Adjusting
valve timing) ] Toothed Belt.
