Balance Shaft Timing Chain






Balance Shaft Timing Chain

Removing

- Remove the camshaft timing chain. Refer to => [ Camshaft Timing Chain ] Camshaft Timing Chain.

- Remove the camshaft timing chain tensioner - 3 -.






- Remove the balance shaft chain tensioner - 1 -.






- Remove the tensioning rail - 2 -.

- Remove the guide rail - 3 -.

- Remove the guide rail - 4 -.

- Remove the timing chain.

Installing

For the correct tightening specifications, refer to => [ Balance Shaft Timing Chain Overview ] Balance Shaft Timing Chain Overview.

- Turn the intermediate shaft sprocket/balance shaft to the marking - arrow -.






The painted links of the timing chain must be positioned on the markings on the chain sprockets.

- Mount the timing chain; the painted links of the timing chain must be positioned on the markings on the chain sprockets.






- Install the timing chain guide rail and tighten the bolts - 4 -.






- Install the timing chain guide rail and tighten the bolts - 3 -.

- Install the timing chain tensioning rail and tighten the bolt - 2 -.

- Insert the timing chain tensioner - 1 - with locking compound. Refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).

- Check the setting one more time.






- Check the markings on the intermediate shaft sprocket/balance shaft - arrow -.






The marking on the intermediate shaft sprocket/balance shaft is shown with the chain removed.

Further installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

- Install camshaft timing chain. Refer to => [ Camshaft Timing Chain ] Camshaft Timing Chain.

- Install the lower timing chain cover. Refer to => [ Lower Timing Chain Cover ] Lower Timing Chain Cover.

- Install the timing chain guard upper section. Refer to => [ Upper Timing Chain Cover ] Upper Timing Chain Cover.

- Install the ribbed belt tensioning damper. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt Tensioner ] Service and Repair.

- Install the ribbed belt. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt ] Ribbed Belt.

- Adjust the subframe mount. Refer to => [ Subframe Mount, Adjusting ] Adjustments.
