Wiper Arm: Adjustments

Wiper Arms, Adjusting

Procedure

If the windshield wiper motor is to be run during the work procedure, the hood must be closed, otherwise the voltage supply of the wiper motor will be interrupted.

- Remove the wiper arms. Refer to => [ Wiper Arm ] Service and Repair.

- Switch on the ignition.

- Activate the "one touch wiping" and let the wiper motor run to the end position.

Every second time the wiper motor is switched off, it returns the wiper arms to a slightly lower rest position, thus tipping the wiper blade lip the other way.

To do so, the wiper motor moves the wiper arms farther down then the rest position and then up a bit again. This lower rest position must not be used to adjust the wiper crank.

Only use the end position where the wiper arms run directly to the end position with no under stroke. Activate the "one touch wiping" again if necessary.

- Switch off the ignition.

- Position the wiper arm with wiper blade installed at the wiper axis and align the wiper blade to the windshield as follows:

Dimension - a - = 0 + 10 mm.

Dimension - b - = 0 + 10 mm.

The dimensions give the distance of the wiper blade tip to the cowl panel trim on the lower edge of the windshield.

- Tighten the nuts - 2 - for the wiper arms - 1 -.

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Windshield Wiper System Overview ] Windshield Wiper System Overview.

- Switch on the ignition.

- Operate the "one touch wiping" and let the wiper arms run to the end position.

- Switch off the ignition.

- Check the adjustment of the wiper arms again, correct if necessary.

- Press the caps - arrows - onto the wiper arms.
