Drive Axle, with Inserted Inner Joint
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench 5-50 Nm (V.A.G 1331)
• CV Joint Boot Clamp Tool (V.A.G 1682)
Perform the Following:
- Remove drive axle. Refer to => [ Drive Axle, Inserted Inner Joint ] Drive Axle, Inserted Inner Joint.
Disassembling
Drive Off the Outer and Inner CV Joint
- Secure the drive axle with protective covers in a vise clamp.
- Remove the clamps.
- Fold back the protective joint boot.
- Drive CV joint from drive axle using a drift - A -.
The drift must be placed precisely on star of CV joint.
Drive On the Outer and Inner CV Joint
- Install the new circlips.
- Slide new CV boot onto drive axle if necessary.
- Coat the splines on the drive axle with assembly paste.
- Press half of the total amount of grease from the repair kit into the joint body.
- Install the joint body on the shaft using a plastic hammer until the locking ring locks into place.
- Distribute the remaining grease from the repair kit into the joint boot.
- Install the CV boot.
- Large and small clamps, tensioning on inner or outer joint. Refer to => [ Small and Large Clamps, Tightening on Inner or Outer Joint ] Service and Repair.
