ATF, Draining
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)
• Protective Goggles
Procedure
• Do not start the engine or tow the vehicle if there is no ATF in the transmission.
Conditions
• Move the vehicle onto a 4-column shop hoist or over a work pit so it is completely level.
• Selector lever in "P".
• The engine is off.
• Follow all disposal regulations for transmission fluids.
- Remove the rear noise insulation - 2 -..
Wear protective goggles.
- Place the (V.A.G 1782) under the transmission.
- Remove the drain plug - 1 - from the ATF pan.
- Drain the ATF.
• The overflow tube - C - is screwed into the opening in the plug.
- Remove the overflow pipe - C -.
- Allow excess ATF to drain out.
- Install the overflow pipe - C -. For the correct tightening specification.
• Overflow pipes with different lengths with different lengths are installed. For the correct allocation, refer to the Parts Catalog.
- Remove the ATF pan and let any remaining ATF drain out. Refer to => [ Oil Pan ] Service and Repair.
• It is necessary to remove the ATF pan from the transmission in order to change the ATF. This means approximately 6 liters of ATF will be changed.
• Only approximately 3.5 liters of ATF will drain out if the ATF is drained via the removed overflow pipe - C - only.
- Clean and install the ATF pan. Refer to => [ Oil Pan ] Service and Repair.
- Fill the ATF. Refer to => [ ATF, Filling ] ATF, Filling.
