Subframe
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Brake Pedal Actuator (V.A.G 1869/2)
• Insert Tool (T10212)
• Scissor Lift Table (VAS 6131)
Removing
• If the subframe is replaced, axle alignment should be performed after installation. Refer to => [ Wheel Alignment ] Wheel Alignment.
• Only if subframe is replaced: level control system sensor , removing and installing. Refer to => [ Vehicle Level Sensor ] Service and Repair.
- With vehicles with air suspension, place vehicle on hoist. Refer to => [ Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels ] Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels.
- Remove wheels.
- Remove rear portion of exhaust system.
- Disconnect all electrical wires from body to rear axle.
Vehicles with Air Suspension
- Clean area around wiring connection.
- Remove left air supply line and seal off connections. Make sure that no dust particles enter connections.
Continuation for All Vehicles
- Remove brake cable from rear axle.
- Remove driveshaft from rear final drive and tie up.
- Remove left and right brake caliper - 1 - and tie it with an wire - 2 - at brake line bracket - 3 -.
- If equipped, remove stone impact protection from subframe.
Before loosening subframe bolts, secure vehicle against tipping over (for example load luggage compartment with approximately 50 kg).
- Attach both Supports (VAS 6131/13-1) and (VAS 6131/13-2) from Basic Set (VAS 6131/13) on Scissor Lift Table (VAS 6131).
- Support subframe with (VAS 6131).
- Support rear of the subframe so that front screw from stabilizer bar bracket is located in center of mount (VAS 6131/13-2) - arrow -.
- Mark position of crossmember on body using felt-tip pen.
- Remove left and right bolts - arrows - from crossmember.
- Secure subframe, refer to => [ Subframe, Securing ] Description and Operation.
- Remove bolts - arrows - for subframe.
- Lower scissor raise table slightly and remove breather line from final drive breather tube.
- Slowly lower subframe.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- Adjust parking brake.
- On vehicles with air suspension, position vehicle on wheels. Refer to => [ Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels ] Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels.
- Tighten the wheels.
- Why an axle alignment is necessary. Refer to => [ Wheel Alignment ] Wheel Alignment.
- On vehicles with automatic headlamp range control system, perform a basic setting on the headlamps.
