Steering Arm Thrust Ring






Steering Arm Thrust Ring

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench 50-200 Nm (V.A.G 1332)

Open-Jaw Torque Wrench Insert (V.A.G 1923)

Removing

- With vehicles with air suspension, place vehicle on hoist. Refer to => [ Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels ] Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels.

- Remove front wheel.

- Clean outside of power steering gear in area of boot.

- Check boot for wear (slits, cracks) and check sealing surfaces of boot for dirt.

- Open clamp and push back boot.

- Remove tie rod using (V.A.G 1923).






- Remove steering arm thrust ring - 1 - from steering rack.






Installing

Note location of steering arm thrust ring.

Large steering arm boundary contact surface - arrows - faces toward tie rod. Collar - 1 - points to steering gear - 2 -.






- Place steering arm thrust ring - 1 - on steering rack.

- Install tie rod on steering gear. Refer to => [ Tie Rod ] Tie Rod.

- If steering arm thrust ring was removed or one was installed, perform axle alignment. Refer to => [ Wheel Alignment ] Wheel Alignment.

- Install the wheel and tighten the wheel bolts.

- On vehicles with air suspension, position vehicle on wheels. Refer to => [ Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels ] Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels.
