Protective Boot






Protective Boot

Removing

- Remove the steering column. Refer to => [ Steering Column ] Steering Column.

- Mount steering column in a vise as shown in illustration.






- Mark the position of the upper section to lower section.

- Pull lower section off upper section with a sharp jerk in direction of - arrow -.

- Remove protective boot from lower section.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Before installation, check contact surface of the guide on the lower section - arrow - for dirt and scores.






If contact surface has scores, replace steering column since a sufficient sealing between steering column and protective boot can no longer be guaranteed.

- Slide protective boot onto lower section by slightly rotating it as shown in illustration.

- Assemble steering column so that markings align and sliding together is performed with a jerk.

- When the steering column has been correctly assembled, the lower section cannot be separated from the upper section using normal force.

- Install the steering column. Refer to => [ Steering Column ] Steering Column.
