Center 2nd Row Three-Point Seat Belt
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Special pop rivet pliers (V.A.G 1753A)
Removing
Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and General Information ] Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and General Information.
- Remove the bench seat (two-thirds bench). Refer to => [ Bench Seat, 2nd Row ] Bench Seat, 2nd Row.
Make sure the backrest is locked (zero position) or it could tip forward accidentally.
- Remove screw - 2 - for belt anchor/belt webbing - 3 - at seat frame, noting rubber disc - 1 -.
- Remove cover and upholstery from backrest. Refer to => [ Backrest Cover and Upholstery ] Backrest Cover and Upholstery.
- Remove the pop rivets - A - for securing the seat belt cover - B -. Do this by drilling out the pop rivet heads.
- Remove cover from backrest mounting tabs - arrows -.
- Remove nut - 1 - from threaded pins - 2 -.
- Remove belt roller - 3 - from threaded pins and guide belt webbing - 4 - back when removing.
• Remove drill shavings and remaining pieces of pop rivets from backrest and seat belt.
Installation
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
Make sure the backrest is locked (zero position) or it could tip forward accidentally.
- When installing seat belt, engage belt roller hooks in backrest cut-out.
• Replace seat belt cover.
• Allocate the pop rivets using the electronic parts catalog.
- Secure the pop rivets on the seat belt cover with the special pop rivet pliers (V.A.G 1753A). Align the holes in cover with the holes in the backrest. Begin riveting from center outward in a diagonal sequence.
- Install cover and upholstery from backrest. Refer to => [ Backrest Cover and Upholstery ] Backrest Cover and Upholstery.
- Insert screw - 2 - in belt anchor/belt webbing - 3 - and then install rubber disc - 1 - on screw.
- Secure belt anchor/belt webbing with screw - 2 - to seat frame. Anchor depression must face toward seat frame ridge - arrow -.
