Refrigerant Line Connection Points, Loosening and Assembling
Refrigerant Line Connection Points, Loosening and Assembling
• The procedure for loosening applies to all connection points in the refrigerant circuit and for the branching point of refrigerant lines to rear heating & A/C unit. There are differences in diameter for line connections, versions of O-ring seals and mounting bolts.
• Depending on component location, various components in vicinity of connection points must be loosened or removed to be able to disconnect the connection point.
• The following illustration shows a connection point on plenum chamber front wall in engine compartment.
Loosening
- Discharge the refrigerant circuit.
- Remove bolts - A -.
- Disconnect connection points of refrigerant lines - D - and - E -.
• Seal open connections of lines with suitable sealing caps (against penetration of dirt and moisture).
Assembling
Assembling is carried out in the reverse order, when doing this note the following:
- Replace O-ring seals - B - and - C -. For correct version, refer to Electronic Parts Catalog.
• Coat the O-ring seals lightly with refrigerant oil prior to installation, refer to => [ Refrigerant Circuit O-Rings ] Refrigerant Circuit O-Rings.
• Note the different tightening torques of bolts - A -.
• Tightening torque of bolts - A - with a thread "M6" 10 Nm.
• Tightening torque of bolts - A - with a thread "M8" 20 Nm.
- Following attachment, check routing of refrigerant pipes. They must be inserted in holders provided and not make contact with other components.
- Reinstall any removed components or re-secure loosened components.
• From MY 2012, vehicles with a 6-cylinder TDI engine with running change, have an additional chafe protection installed on the low pressure refrigerant line. Make sure that the installation position for the chafe protection is correct. Refer to => [ Compressor Refrigerant Lines, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Compressor Refrigerant Lines, Disconnecting and Connecting.
- Evacuate and re-charge refrigerant circuit.
- Operate the A/C system after filling the refrigerant circuit, refer to => [ A/C System, Operating after Filling Refrigerant Circuit ] A/C System, Operating after Filling Refrigerant Circuit.
