Retaining Plate With Control Motors (V158) ((V159)) and (V109) ((V108))
Retaining Plate With Control Motors (V158) ((V159)) and (V109) ((V108))
• On vehicles with a Basic version A/C system (Basic version of Climatronic Control Module (J255) ), footwell doors and temperature doors on left and right sides are operated by one control motor respectively, it is fastened at right on the heating & A/C unit (both left and right doors are connected to each other via a shaft, the control motors are fastened at right on heating & A/C unit), refer to => [ Air Duct In Front Heating & A/C Unit ] Air Duct In Front Heating & A/C Unit.
Removing
- Turn the ignition on.
- Bring control motors into service position, perform basic setting of A/C system (bring the motors into the service position) using the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS5051 in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
- As soon as control motors are located in service position, switch ignition off, verify using Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS5051 in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
• Control motors can only be re-installed in the service position after removal.
- Remove lower right instrument panel trim.
- Remove glove compartment.
- Remove the Front Information Display Control Head Control Module (J523) / Information Electronics Control Module 1 (J794).
- Remove air channel for air duct in front passenger's footwell.
- Remove right cover of heater core, refer to => [ Right Heater Core Covers - Heating & A/C Unit Installed ] Right Heater Core Covers - Heating & A/C Unit Installed.
• The bolts - A - are installed underneath the retaining plate - B - for the adjustment motor.
- Remove bolts - A -.
• Bolts - C - are not loosened or removed to remove retaining plate - B -, they are used to guide the retaining plate.
- Pull out retaining plate - B - with control motors downward.
- Mark connectors - D - and - E - (risk of interchange) and disconnect them.
- Disengage mount for wiring harness - F - from retaining plate - B -.
Installing
- Check levers of both control motors - A - and - B -, retaining plate can only be installed correctly when they are located in the position depicted (service position).
• Position - E - shows the respective adjustment range of the control motors.
• If both control motor levers are not located in the position depicted, the control motor(s) may be connected via a 5A fuse to a 12 V battery for example, using an adapter lead, refer to => [ Preparing Adapter Cables for Control Motor Actuation ] Preparing Adapter Cables For Control Motor Actuation (or an adapter lead from connector test kit (V.A.G 1594/C) to terminals 5 and 6). Rotate control motor for only as long until it has reached the position depicted (the turning direction can be reversed by swapping Plus and Minus).
- Check position of threaded plates - G -.
• Bolts - F - are used as a guide when installing retaining plate, if they are screwed in too far, the retaining plate cannot be installed, if they are not screwed in far enough, it may possibly cause noise.
- Connect connectors to control motors (note the assignment, risk of interchange).
- Insert retaining plate on to bolts - F -, when doing this make sure that studs on levers of control motors - A - and - B - are guided into lever guides on doors - C - and - D -.
- Slide retaining plate - B - with control motors on to heating & A/C unit from below.
- Check position of bolts - C - and their fit in retaining plate guides (if retaining plate fits too loosely on bolts - C -, screw them in if necessary far enough that there is no longer any play--do not tighten).
- Check routing of electrical wire and make sure while installing that the wires do not come into contact with moving parts of the control motors and door levers.
- Install bolts - A -.
- Install the remaining removed components again in reverse order.
- Check the DTC memory for the Climatronic control module and erase any faults displayed if necessary using the Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051 in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
- If necessary, perform a basic setting and output diagnostic test mode on the A/C system using the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information system VAS 5051 in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
