D-Pillar Trim
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Trim Removal Wedge (3409)
Removing
- Remove the roof panel trim. Refer to => [ Roof Panel Trim Overview ] Description and Operation.
- Then remove the luggage compartment side trim. Refer to => [ Luggage Compartment Side Trim Panel Overview ] Luggage Compartment Side Trim Panel Overview.
- Unclip the cover cap with the airbag symbol and remove the D-pillar trim screws.
• The cover cap hangs from the D-pillar trim and cannot be removed.
- Remove the D-pillar trim from the mounts in the body.
Vehicles with a seat belt on the D-pillar
- Remove belt extraction panel. Refer to => [ Seat Belt Extraction Panel ] Seat Belt Extraction Panel.
- Guide the seat belt through the D-pillar trim opening.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
• If trim clamps remain in body mounting points, remove these and insert them in trim.
• Check clamps for damage or deformation, replace if necessary.
- Remove locking compound residue from threaded screw holes. You can use a thread cutter to do so.
If threaded holes are not cleaned, there is the danger that new screws could seize up during installation and shear off when removed again.
Vehicles with a seat belt on the D-pillar
- Install seat belt extraction panel. Refer to => [ Seat Belt Extraction Panel ] Seat Belt Extraction Panel.
Procedure for all vehicles
- Draw the door seal lip over the D-pillar trim.
- Install the roof panel trim. Refer to => [ Roof Panel Trim Overview ] Description and Operation.
- Install the luggage compartment side trim. Refer to => [ Luggage Compartment Side Trim Panel Overview ] Luggage Compartment Side Trim Panel Overview.
