Ignition Coil: Service and Repair






Ignition Coils

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Ignition Coil Puller (T40039)

Remove the ignition coils from cylinder bank 1.

- Free up the fuel line - 1 - and hose connection - 2 - from the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister on the air filter housing and on the air guide tube.






- Remove the vacuum hose - 3 - from the air guide pipe connection.

- Loosen the clamps - arrows - and remove the air guide pipe.

- Remove the bolts - arrows - and disconnect the connectors on the ignition coils.






- Lay the electrical wiring harness down slightly.

Ignore - 1 and 2 -.

- Pull the ignition coils out of the spark plug shaft using a (T40039).






Remove the ignition coils from cylinder bank 2.

- Remove the bolt - 2 -.

- Disconnect the connector - 1 -.






- Move the coolant reservoir to the side with the coolant hoses still connected - arrows -.

- Remove the bolts - arrows - and disconnect the connectors on the ignition coils.






- Lay the electrical wiring harness down slightly.

Ignore - 1, 2 and 3 -.

- Remove the ignition coils with the (T40039) - arrow -.

Installing

- Insert all ignition coils loosely into spark plug shaft.

- Align the ignition coils to the connectors and then connect all of the connectors simultaneously onto the ignition coils.

- Press the ignition coils uniformly onto the spark plugs by hand (do not use an impact tool under any circumstances).

Install in reverse order of removal.

Tightening specification for ignition coil electric wiring guide to the cylinder head cover: 5 Nm
