Coolant Recirculation Pump (V50)

Coolant Recirculation Pump (V50)

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hose Clamps up to 25 mm Diameter (3094)

Hose Clamp Pliers (VAS 6340)

Removal

There is a risk of scalding from hot steam and coolant.

The coolant system is under pressure when the engine is warm.

To reduce the pressure, cover the coolant reservoir cap with several cloths and then open it carefully.

- Open the coolant reservoir cap - arrow -.

- Remove the plenum chamber cover.

- Remove the fresh air intake duct. Refer to => [ Fresh Air Intake Duct ] Fresh Air Intake Duct.

- Label the arrangement of the coolant hoses.

- Cover the area under the pump with an absorbent rag or paper.

- Clamp off the coolant hoses - 5, 6 - with hose clamps (3094) and remove from the pump by releasing the hose clips.

- Disconnect the electrical harness connector - 2 -.

- Pull the bracket - 1 - out of the clip nuts.

- Unscrew the bolts - 3 - and remove the pump - 4 -.

Installation

Installation is done in reverse order, observe the following:

Secure all hose connections with hose clamps used in series production. Refer to Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).

Ensure that these components do not come in direct contact with the body or do not touch other components.

- When attaching the coolant hoses, ensure that as little air as possible remains in the pump and the coolant hoses. Refer to => [ Bleeding the Coolant Circuit ] Bleeding the Coolant Circuit.

Pay attention to the flow direction of the coolant at the Coolant recirculation pump/ Coolant shut-off valve (N82).

Ensure proper arrangement of the coolant hoses at the Coolant recirculation pump/Coolant shut-off valve.

Interchanged coolant hoses can result in failure of the passenger compartment heater due to the incorrect flow direction of the coolant.

Crushed coolant hoses can result in failure of the passenger compartment heater due to the insufficient coolant flow quantity.

- Tighten the screws - 5 - to 1.5 Nm.

- The bracket - 4 - must be pressed completely into the clip nuts - 6 -.

- Install the fresh air intake duct. Refer to => [ Fresh Air Intake Duct ] Fresh Air Intake Duct.

- Check the coolant level and bleed the coolant circuit while observing the relevant instructions. Refer to => [ Bleeding the Coolant Circuit ] Bleeding the Coolant Circuit.

- Check the activation and function of the Coolant recirculation pump using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

- Install the plenum chamber cover.
