Air Intake Housing
Air Intake Housing
Information for controlling and regulating the components in the passenger compartment. Refer to => [ A/C System Control and Regulation Components Inside Passenger Compartment ] A/C System Control and Regulation Components Inside Passenger Compartment.
Observe the general control motor information. Refer to => [ General Control Motor Information ] General Control Motor Information.
Removal
- Note the general information => [ General Control Motor Information ] General Control Motor Information.
- Move the right front seat all the way back.
- Switch off the ignition.
- Remove the glove compartment.
- Remove the footwell vent on the front passenger side. Refer to => [ Right Footwell Vent Air Guide - Front Passenger Side ] Right Footwell Vent Air Guide - Front Passenger Side.
- In vehicles with a Comfort A/C system, remove the air guide for glove compartment cooling. Refer to => [ Air Duct For Glove Compartment Cooling ] Air Duct For Glove Compartment Cooling.
- Release the quick-connect coupling - 2 - with a screwdriver - 1 -.
- Detach and remove the cover - 3 - at the bracket - 4 -.
- Disconnect the electrical harness connector - C - at the fresh air blower - B -.
- Disengage the bracket - A - and remove the acoustic cover - B -.
- Label the electrical harness connector - A, B - and the control motors.
- Disconnect the electrical harness connectors and expose the wiring harness - C - at the air intake housing - D -.
- Unscrew the screws - A, B -.
- Remove the bracket - C -.
- Disconnect the electrical harness connector - A - at the Evaporator vent temperature sensor (G263) - B -.
- Remove the screw - A -.
- Insert the screwdriver in the upper guide on the air intake housing to the stop and release the retaining tab - B - - top arrow -. At the same time pull the air intake housing - E - to the right and down and detach at the air distributor housing - D - - bottom arrows -.
• If the air intake housing cannot be released, the air distributor housing and the air intake housing are secured with a bolt at the bolting point - C - next to the retaining tab.
Vehicles with an additional bolt at the air intake housing
- Remove the dust and pollen filter. Refer to => [ Dust and Pollen Filter ] Service and Repair.
- Remove the bolt - A - at the bolting point - C - via the installation shaft for the dust and pollen filter - E -.
Installation
Installation is done is reverse order, observe the following:
- Check the evaporator - A -, air guide housing - B - and air intake housing - C - for contamination and clean if necessary.
- Check the foam seal - D - attached at the air intake housing for damage and replace if necessary.
- Check the contact surface/chamfer - E - at the air distributor housing for damage.
• If the foam seal or the contact surface/bevel is damaged, air can escape here and noises can occur when operating the A/C system.
• If the air distributor housing and the air intake housing are not correctly joined, air can escape at the connection point and noises can occur when operating the A/C system.
• If a contact surface/bevel is damaged, fill the damaged area with, for example, silicone sealant. Refer to Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
- Insert the lower tabs of the air intake housing - E - into the mount of the air distributor housing - D - and tilt it up.
• The air intake housing must engage audibly in the retaining tab - B - on the air distributor housing.
• If the retaining tab - B - does not engage immediately, pull the air intake housing in the area of the upper retaining tab backward while pressing the right side forward and upward.
Leaks at the connection points.
• Do not use force when attaching the air intake manifold to the air conditioner.
• If the air intake housing is joined by force to the A/C unit, the tabs of the air intake housing can be permanently deformed. As a result, minor leaks at the connection points can cause whistling when the A/C system is in operation.
Vehicles with an additional bolt at the air intake housing
- Install the bolt through the installation shaft for the dust and pollen filter at the air distributor housing and tighten it.
Continued for all
If the air intake housing can no longer be secured to the air distributor housing, the air intake housing must be bolted to the air distributor housing through the installation shaft for the dust and pollen filter.
- Remove the air intake housing again.
- Remove the dust and pollen filter. Refer to => [ Dust and Pollen Filter ] Service and Repair.
- Drill a hole at the bolting point - D - with a diameter of 4 mm.
- Install the air intake housing again.
- Remove the bolt - A - at the bolting point - C - via the installation shaft for the dust and pollen filter - E -.
• Pay attention to the correct version of the bolt - A - so that the bolting point - C - is not damaged by a bolt that is too large. Refer to Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
- Install the wiring harness so that it cannot come in contact with any moving parts (for example, the lever on the motor).
- In vehicles with a Comfort A/C system, install the air guide for glove compartment cooling. Refer to => [ Air Duct For Glove Compartment Cooling ] Air Duct For Glove Compartment Cooling.
- Install the footwell vent on the front passenger side. Refer to => [ Right Footwell Vent Air Guide - Front Passenger Side ] Right Footwell Vent Air Guide - Front Passenger Side.
- Install the glove compartment.
After completion of the repair work, perform the following work on the control head using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function:
- Read out the event memory and erase any displayed entries.
- Perform the basic setting.
- Perform the output diagnostic test mode.
