Upper Oil Pan






Upper Oil Pan

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Assembly Tool (T10118)

Locking Tool (T40265)

Hand drill with plastic brush attachment

Protective goggles

Silicone sealant, refer to the Parts Catalog

Removing

- Remove the transmission.

- Remove the lower oil pan. Refer to => [ Lower Oil Pan ] Lower Oil Pan.

- Remove the rear sealing flange. Refer to => [ Sealing Flange, Transmission Side ] Sealing Flange, Transmission Side.

- Remove the oil pump. Refer to => [ Oil Pump ] Oil Pump.

- Disconnect the connector - 1 -.






- Remove the bolts - arrows -.






- Remove the bolts - 1 through 13 - and the upper oil pan.






First pry the upper section oil pan out on the transmission side. When prying out, be careful not to bend the timing chain cover.

Installing

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Oil Pan and Oil Pump Overview ] Oil Pan and Oil Pump Overview.

Silicone sealant, refer to the Parts Catalog

Note the expiration date of the silicone sealant.

The upper oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes after application of silicone sealant.

Replace the bolts which are being tightened with an additional turn.

Replace sealing rings, seals and self-locking nuts.

- Remove any sealant residue on the cylinder block using a flat blade scraper.

Danger of eye injury.

Wear protective goggles.

- Remove any remaining sealant on upper oil pan using for example a rotating plastic brush.






See if the timing chain cover is deformed. Then mount the top section of the oil pan without any sealant and check the gap between the cover and the top section. If deformation is found and the cover cannot be aligned, replace the cover after installing the upper oil pan.

- Clean sealing surfaces, must be free of oil and grease.

- Make sure the oil passages in the upper oil pan and in the cylinder crankcase clean.

- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: approximately 2 mm).













The lubrication system could be plugged with excess sealant.

Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.

Thickness of sealant bead: 2 to 3 mm.

- Apply silicon sealant to clean sealing surfaces of the upper oil pan as shown in illustration - arrow -.

- Apply the silicon sealant, as shown in the illustration - arrows -, between the cylinder block and the lower timing chain guard.






The upper oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes after application of silicone sealant.

The sealant bead may not be thicker than specified, otherwise excess sealant could enter the oil pan and clog the oil intake tube.

On the transmission side, the upper oil pan and the crankcase must align.

- Position the upper oil pan immediately and tighten the bolts, tightening sequence => [ Upper Oil Pan - Tightening Sequence ] Oil Pan and Oil Pump Overview.

- Install the bolts - arrows -. Tightening specifications - item 13 - => [ (Item 13) Bolt ] Timing Chain Guards, Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 (N205) Overview.






- Install the rear sealing flange. Refer to => [ Sealing Flange, Transmission Side ] Sealing Flange, Transmission Side.

- Install the oil pump. Refer to => [ Oil Pump ] Oil Pump.

- Insert the new oil baffle and attach it.

- Remove the lower oil pan. Refer to => [ Lower Oil Pan ] Lower Oil Pan.

Assemble in reverse order of disassembly.

- Fill the engine oil and check the level.
