Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench 40-200 Nm (V.A.G 1332)

Shock Absorber Set (T10001)

Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051)

Magnetic Ride Shock Absorber Prism (T40129)






1 - Shock Absorbers

Only shock absorbers with the same part number may be installed on the left and right.

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Shock Absorber ] Shock Absorber.

Be aware of the various suspension versions. Refer to => [ Explanations of the Production Control Numbers (PR Number) ] Application and ID.

Always release gas and drain malfunctioning shock absorbers before disposal. Refer to => [ Rear Gas-Filled Strut, Venting and Emptying ] Rear Gas-Filled Strut, Venting and Emptying.

Check removed shock absorber. Refer to => [ Shock Absorbers, Removed, Checking ] Shock Absorbers, Removed, Checking.

On vehicles with electronically-controlled damping (Audi magnetic ride), the control position must be reprogrammed each time a shock absorber is replaced using the (VAS 5051).

2 - Protective Cap

Installed on a conventional shock absorber.

3 - Protective Tube

4 - Support Ring

Depending on the model, a standard shock absorber is installed. Allocate parts using the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA)

5 - Buffer Stop

6 - Washer

Installed on the Audi magnetic ride shock absorber.

7 - Shock Absorber Mounting

8 - Nut

25 Nm

Self-locking

Always replace.

Loosening and tightening on a conventional shock absorber.

Loosening and tightening on an Audi magnetic ride shock absorber.

9 - Cover

Installed on the Audi magnetic ride shock absorber.

Always replace.

Pay attention to the installed position of the connector inside the grommet cover.

Make sure it latches in securely.

10 - Cover

Installed on a conventional shock absorber.

Standard Shock Absorber






1 Ratchet (commercially available)
2 Socket wrench 21 mm (T10001/9)
3 Ratchet (T10001/11)
4 Socket wrench 21 mm (T10001/1)

Magnetic Ride Shock Absorber






- Tighten piston rod in vise as shown in the illustration using (T40129) - 1 -.

- Remove the cover - 3 - upward and disconnect the connector - 2 - from piston rod. It is not possible to remove it without damaging it.

- Remove nut - 2 -.






Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Tightening specifications: 25 Nm
