High Pressure Pump
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Camshaft Gear Counter-Holder (T10051)
• Puller (T40064)
• Pressure Pad for T40064 Tool (T40064/1)
• Socket Head Bolt (T40064/2)
Removing
• Follow the guidelines for clean working conditions when working on the fuel system. Refer to => [ Fuel System ] Fuel System.
• Always follow these rules before and during work.
• Letting the high pressure pump run dry will destroy it.
• The high pressure pump must be filled with fuel before starting the engine for the first time. Do not let the high pressure pump run dry. For the first fuel filling, refer to => [ Filling with Fuel after Installing High Pressure Pump ] Filling With Fuel After Installing High Pressure Pump.
- Remove the toothed belt from the camshaft and the high pressure pump.
- Disconnect the connector - 1 - from the fuel metering valve (N290).
- Remove the coolant line bolts on the intake manifold and move the coolant line to the side.
- Remove both fuel lines - 2 and 3 - on the high pressure pump.
- Open the union nuts - 1 - on the high pressure pump and on the fuel rail - 5 - and remove the fuel high pressure line - 4 -.
• Do not bend the fuel lines.
- Remove the toothed belt gear from the high pressure pump.
- Counter-hold the high pressure pump hub with the (T10051) and remove the nut - 1 -.
- Position the (T40064) with the (T40064/1) and (T40064/2) as illustrated and remove the hub from the high pressure pump. Counter-hold with a 24 mm open-end wrench if necessary.
- Remove the high pressure pump bolts - arrows -.
- Carefully remove the high pressure pump.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal.
• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Fuel System Overview ] Fuel System Overview, Diesel
- Install the high pressure pump toothed belt.
- High pressure lines, installing. Refer to => [ High Pressure Lines ] Service and Repair.
• The high pressure pump must be filled with fuel before starting the engine for the first time. Do not let the high pressure pump run dry. First fuel filling, refer to => [ Filling with Fuel after Installing High Pressure Pump ] Filling With Fuel After Installing High Pressure Pump.
• Letting the high pressure pump run dry will destroy it.
