Air Door Actuator / Motor: Testing and Inspection

Recirculation Door Motor (V113), Checking Function

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Voltage tester (V.A.G 1527 B)

- Remove the glove compartment, if necessary.

- Switch ignition on.

- Set switch for Fresh Air Blower (V2) - G - to speed 3.

- Turn rotary switch for air distribution - B - into "air distribution to instrument panel vents" position.

- Fresh/recirculating air button - F - is not operated (fresh air mode, button indicator lamp does not light up).

Air is drawn in via fresh air intake from plenum chamber.

- Operate fresh/recirculating air button - F - (recirculating air, button indicator lamp lights up).

Air is drawn in from area behind glove compartment (recirculating air mode).

- Turn rotary switch for air distribution - B - into "air distribution to front windshield" position - D -.

Indicator lamp in fresh/recirculating air button - F - goes out, fresh/recirculating air door goes into "fresh air mode" position.

If function is not OK, check electronics in A/C Control Module (J301) and activation of Recirculation Door Motor (V113). Refer to=> [ A/C Control Module and Recirculation Door Motor, Checking Function ] A/C Control Module and Recirculation Door Motor, Checking Function.

The "Air Recirculation Mode" function is erased automatically after approximately 20 minutes after switching ignition on again (it remains permanently stored in the Japan coding only). If windows fog up after switching on ignition again, air recirculation mode is to be switched off manually.

If fresh/recirculating air door function is OK and windows fog up, check:

- Dust and pollen filter for soiling, refer to=> [ Dust and Pollen Filter ] Service and Repair.

- Forced air extraction of passenger compartment, refer to=> [ Vent Frame, Checking ] Vent Frame, Checking.

- Passenger compartment for water penetration.

- Fresh air intake from plenum chamber and water drain of plenum chamber, refer to=> [ Plenum Chamber Water Drain, Checking and Cleaning ] Testing and Inspection.

- Seals between individual components of fresh air intake and vehicle for damage and proper seal.

- Activation of A/C Compressor Regulator Valve (N280) and function of A/C system => [ Cooling Performance - With Automatically Regulated A/C System ] Cooling Performance - With Automatically Regulated A/C System or => [ Cooling Performance - With Manually Regulated A/C System, Checking ] Cooling Performance - With Manually Regulated A/C System, Checking (check cooling output).

Under certain operating conditions, moisture in the refrigerant circuit can lead to ice build-up on the A/C Compressor Regulator Valve (and on the expansion valve). A/C compressor control is reduced by this ice build-up, evaporator is cooled too intensely and freezes. Evaporator ice-up may be the cause for fogged windows.
