Brake Booster, With S-Tronic






Brake Booster, with S-Tronic

The selector shaft lever on the transmission must be removed if the vehicle has a S-Tronic. Check and adjust the selector lever cable after installing.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hose Clamps Up to 25 mm Dia. (3094)

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Brake Filler/Bleeder Unit (V.A.G 1869)

Brake Filler/Bleeder Unit Suction Adapter (V.A.G 1869/4)

Brake Filler/Bleeder Unit (VAS 5234)

Sealing Plugs Repair Kit, Part No. (1H0 698 311 A)

Removing

- Move the selector level into S.

Do not move the selector lever until the selector lever cable is installed.

- Switch off the ignition

- Remove the securing plate - 5 - for the selector lever cable.






- Remove the selector lever cable from the ball head on the selector shaft - 2 -.


Do not bend the selector lever cable. The selector lever cable must be replaced if the protective sleeve is damaged.

- Remove the bolt - 1 -.

Mark the position of the lever for the selector shaft for installation later.

- Remove the selector shaft lever - 2 -.

- Remove the vacuum in the brake booster by pressing the brake pedal repeatedly.

- Remove the master brake cylinder.

- Unclip and remove the vacuum line from the brake booster.






- Where necessary, disconnect electrical connections on brake booster.

- Remove the driver side storage tray.

- Remove the brake lamp switch on the brake pedal. Refer to => [ Brake Lamp Switch on Brake Pedal ] Brake Lamp Switch on Brake Pedal.

The brake lamp switch may be installed in the brake booster depending on the model. Do not remove it.

- Disconnect the brake pedal from the brake booster.

- Remove the nuts - 1 -.






- Remove the brake booster.

Installing

Replace nuts

Installation is in reverse order of removal, with special attention to the following:

- Clip brake pedal together to the brake booster.

- Install the brake lamp switch on the brake pedal. Refer to => [ Brake Lamp Switch on Brake Pedal ] Brake Lamp Switch on Brake Pedal.

The brake lamp switch may be installed in the brake booster depending on the model. Do not remove it.

- Install the master brake cylinder.

Tightening Specifications






- Press the lever - 2 - onto the selector shaft. Pay attention to the marking made during removal.






Pay attention to the marking when installing the lever - 2 -.

- Install the bolt - 1 - and tighten it to 8 Nm.

- Pull the selector lever cable through the cable mounting bracket.


Do not bend the selector lever cable. The selector lever cable must be replaced if the protective sleeve is damaged.

Replace the securing plate.

- Press the selector lever cable - 2 - carefully on the lever for the selector shaft lever and secure it with a new securing plate - 1 -.






- Bleed the brake system: ABS/ESP Mark 60/ Mark 70. Refer to => [ Bleeding Brake System, ITT ABS/ESP Mark 60/ABS Mark 70 ] Bleeding Brake System, ITT ABS/ESP Mark 60/ABS Mark 70.

- Perform a basic setting to brake pressure sensor 1 (G201) on vehicles with ABS/ESP.

Use the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051 B) or (VAS 5052).

- Check and adjust the selector lever cable.

- On vehicles with ABS/ESP Mark 60, perform the ESP test drive.
