Danger of personal injury.
• Wear protective goggles.
• Wear acid-resistant safety gloves.
• Keep a safe distance from the fan when working near the radiator. The fan can turn on by itself.
There is an accident risk if a gear is accidentally engaged while the engine is running!
• Move the selector lever into "P" before working on the engine while it is running and pull the parking brake button to set the electro-mechanical parking brake.
There is a risk of damaging the transmission.
• If there is only a little gear oil or none at all left in the transmission after a repair or after heavy oil leakage, engine must not be started.
• Pre-fill transmission with gear oil after a repair or after heavy oil leakage.
• Use only S-Tronic transmission fluid available as a replacement part.
• Using other fluids can cause malfunctions or transmission failure.
• For the correct allocation, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
• The (VAS 6262 A) must be clean and transmission fluid must not be mixed with another fluid!
- Measure the length of the bleed pipe on the (VAS 6262 A). Shorten it if necessary => [ Measure the Length of the Bleed Pipe on the. Shorten it if Necessary. ] Description and Operation.
Conditions
• Move the vehicle onto a 4-column shop hoist or over a work pit so it is completely level.
• Selector lever in "P".
• The engine is off.
• The transmission fluid filter must always be replaced when changing the transmission fluid.
• All safety precautions, notes and test requirements must be observed, refer to => [ Transmission Fluid, Checking and Filling ] Transmission Fluid, Checking and Filling.
• Observe disposal guidelines for oils.
Transmission Fluid, Draining
- Replace the transmission fluid filter. Refer to => [ Transmission Fluid Filter ] Transmission Fluid Filter.
- Remove the noise insulation - 1 -. Refer to "Underbody Trim Panels and Heat Shields".
- Place the (V.A.G 1782) under the transmission.
- If equipped, remove oil drain plug - A -.
• For newer models, the oil drain plug - A - does not exist. The transmission fluid can only be drained using check plug - B - on these transmission as described.
- Drain the transmission fluid.
- Replace drain plug seal - arrow -.
Tighten the drain plug to 45 Nm.
- Remove the inspection plug - B -.
• The overflow tube - C - is screwed into the opening of the inspection plug.
- Remove the overflow tube - C -.
- Allow the excess transmission oil to drain.
- Install the overflow tube - C - in the inspection plug opening.
Transmission Fluid, Filling
• Install the overflow pipe into the opening for the check plug to the correct tightening specification - B -.
- Shake before opening.
- Install S-Tronic transmission gear oil container on the (VAS 6262 A) ; parts number Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
• Use (VAS 6262/6) if the thread on the container does not fit (VAS 6262 A).
- Screw in (VAS 6262 A) into the opening of the inspection plug - B -.
- Hold transmission fluid container as high as possible over the transmission and allow fluid to run into the transmission.
- Fill 5.5 liters transmission fluid for S-Tronic transmission into transmission.
- Place selector lever in position "P", engage parking brake.
- Press the brake pedal and hold it down.
- Start the engine and run at idle.
- With brake pressed, shift through all selector lever positions "P, R, N, D, S" at idle, retaining each position for at least 3 seconds.
- Move the selector lever into "P".
