Right Flange Shaft
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Old oil collecting and extracting device (V.A.G 1782)
Removing
Proceed as follows:
• Observe general repair notes. Refer to => [ Repair Instructions ] Repair Instructions.
• Observe cleanliness rules when working on transmissions. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.
- Remove noise insulation in center by loosening fasteners - 1 through 4 -.
- Remove right noise insulation - arrows -.
- Remove right drive axle heat shield - arrows -.
- Remove right drive axle from transmission flange shaft.
- Disconnect electrical connector - 1 - on oil level thermal sensor (G266).
- Unclip bracket - 2 - for electrical wire to oil level thermal sensor (G266) on subframe.
- Place used oil collection and extraction device (V.A.G 1782) under transmission.
- Remove right flange shaft bolt by installing 2 bolts in flange and counter holding flange shaft with assembly lever.
- Remove flange shaft with spring, thrust washer and tapered ring.
Installing
• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Flange Shafts and Shaft Seals Assembly Overview ] Description and Operation, => [ Heat Shield for Right Drive
Axle ] Description and Operation
Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:
- Press flange shaft against spring force and tighten.
- Install right drive axle.
- Gear oil level, checking and topping off. Refer to => [ Gear Oil Level, Checking and Filling ] Gear Oil Level, Checking and Filling.
