Front Final Drive and Transfer Case, Checking Transmission Oil Level and Filling
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Oil collecting and extracting device (V.A.G 1782)
• Protective glasses
Procedure
• Tightening specification, refer to => [ Center Differential Housing Assembly Overview ] .
• General repair notes, refer to => [ Repair Information ] .
• Rules for cleanliness when working on the DSG transmission => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.
• Gear oil at about 20 °C / 68 °F (room temperature).
• Move vehicle onto a four-pillar lifting platform or over a work pit so that it stands absolutely horizontal.
• The transmission must be still for at least 15 minutes to make sure the oil settles internally.
- Place (V.A.G 1782) under transmission.
• Place a cloth over the tunnel crossmember to prevent the transmission oil from running into the cast pockets.
Danger of eye injury.
• Wear protective goggles!
- Remove the plug - arrow - on the side of the transmission housing.
• The transmission oil must be up to the lower edge of the check and fill hole.
- If the transmission oil is below the check- and fill hole, fill until the oil runs out of the hole.
- Perform this process in every 15 seconds with 50 ml of transmission oil until the transmission if full.
• It is important to follow the waiting period to make sure the various oil spaces in the transmission are filled equally.
- Tighten the plug.
