Oil Pan Lower Section
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Used Oil Collection and Extraction Device (V.A.G 1782)
• Hand drill with plastic brush attachment
• Protective eyewear
• Silicone sealant, refer to the electronic parts catalog ETKA
Removing
- Remove noise insulation.
- Remove the crossbrace - 4 -.
- Remove the stabilizer bar - 1 -.
- Remove the bolts - 2 - and the nuts - 3 -.
- Move the steering gear - 5 - slightly to the right, lower it approximately 10 cm and then tie it up.
Risk of damaging the oil lines and hoses.
• Do not stretch, kink or bend oil lines and hoses.
Suspension components could be damaged.
Never rest the vehicle on its wheels if the subframe mount, steering gear or subframe crossbrace are not installed correctly.
Do not support the vehicle on the subframe or the subframe crossbrace, for example, by a floor jack or similar device.
- Remove bolt - arrow -.
- Remove the steering column - 1 - from the steering gear - 2 -.
- Place the (V.A.G 1782) under the engine and drain the oil.
• Observe disposal regulations!
- Disconnect the connector from the oil level thermal sensor (G266) - arrow -.
- Remove the oil level thermal sensor.
- Remove the bolts - 1 to 19 -.
- Remove oil pan, if necessary loosen by applying light strikes with a rubber hammer.
Installing
• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Oil Pan and Oil Pump Overview ] Oil Pan and Oil Pump Overview
• Silicone sealant, refer to the electronic parts catalog ETKA
• Note the expiration date of the silicone sealant.
• The oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes after application of silicone sealant.
• Replace the bolts which are being tightened with an additional turn.
• Replace sealing rings, seals and self-locking nuts.
- Spray the sealing surface with sealant remover and allow it to work.
- Remove any sealant residue on the upper section of the oil pan using a flat blade scraper.
Risk of eye injury.
• Wear safety glasses.
- Remove sealant residue on the lower section of the oil pan, for example with a rotating plastic brush.
- Clean sealing surfaces, must be free of oil and grease.
- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (diameter is approximately 3 mm).
- Apply silicon sealant to clean sealing surfaces of the oil pan (lower section) as shown in illustration.
• Sealant bead thickness: 2 to 3 mm.
• The oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes after application of silicon sealant.
• The sealant bead may not be thicker than specified, otherwise excess sealant could enter the oil pan and clog the oil intake tube.
- Position the lower section of the oil pan immediately and tighten the bolts, tightening sequence => [ Oil Pan, Lower Section, Tightening

• After installing oil pan, allow sealant to dry for approximately 30 minutes. Only after then may the engine oil be replenished.
- Fill engine oil and check oil level.
- Install the steering gear.
- Install stabilizer bar.
- Install the crossbrace.
- Install the noise insulation.
The rest of the assembly is basically a reverse of the disassembling sequence.
