Lower Oil Pan

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)

• Hand drill with plastic brush attachment

• Protective goggles

• Silicone sealant, refer to the Parts Catalog

Removing

- Remove the noise insulation.

Cabriolet

- Remove the frame for the noise insulation.

All

- Disconnect the connector - 1 - from the oil level thermal sensor (G266).






- Drain engine oil.

- Remove the bolts - 1 to 20 -.






- Remove oil pan, if necessary loosen by applying light strikes with a rubber hammer.

Installing

• For the correct tightening specifications, refer to => [ Oil Pan and Oil Pump Overview ] Engine


Risk of contaminating lubricating system and bearing.

• Cover open parts of engine.

• Silicon sealant, refer to the Parts Catalog

• Note the expiration date of the silicone sealant.

• The oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes after the silicone sealant has been applied.

- Spray the sealing surface with sealant remover and allow it to work.

- Remove any sealant residue on the upper oil pan using a flat blade scraper.


Danger of eye injury.

• Wear protective goggles.

- Remove any remaining sealant on lower oil pan using for example a rotating plastic brush.






- Clean sealing surfaces, must be free of oil and grease.

- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: approximately 3 mm.






- Apply silicon sealant to clean sealing surfaces of the lower oil pan as shown in the illustration.







The lubrication system could be plugged with excess sealant.

• Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.

• Thickness of sealant bead: 2 to 3 mm

• The oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes after the silicone sealant has been applied.

• The sealant bead may not be thicker than specified, otherwise excess sealant could enter the oil pan and clog the oil intake tube.

- Position the lower oil pan immediately and tighten the bolts, tightening sequence. Refer to => [ Lower Oil Pan - Tightening Sequence ] Engine.

• After installing oil pan, allow sealant to dry for approximately 30 minutes. Only after then may the engine oil be replenished.

- Fill engine oil and check oil level.

Assemble in reverse order of disassembly.
