Lower Oil Pan






Lower Oil Pan

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Engine Support Bridge (10 - 222 A)

Bracket with Spindle and Hook (10 - 222 A /10)

Adapter (10 - 222 A /19)

Engine Sling (2024 A) and bracket (2024 A/1)

Engine/Transmission Jack (V.A.G 1383 A)

Engine Support (T10014)

Engine Support Basic Set (T40091)

Engine Support Supplement Set (T40093)

Hand drill with plastic brush attachment

Protective eyewear

Sealant, refer to the Parts Catalog

Removing

- Remove the left coolant pipe. Refer to => [ Left Coolant Pipe ] Left Coolant Pipe.

- Remove the stabilizer bar.






- Remove the ribbed belt tensioner. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt Tensioner ] Service and Repair.

- Drain engine oil.

- Remove the air filter housing.






- Remove engine bracket left and right nuts - arrows -.






- Remove the left front wheel housing liner.






- Remove the nuts and bolts- arrows - on the refrigerant line clamps.






To position the (10 - 222 A /19) on the longitudinal members, move the refrigerant lines to the side slightly.

- Mount the (10 - 222 A) with the engine supports (T40091/3) and 2 spindles onto the bolted fender edges.






The spindles are positioned forward.

- Attach both spindles to the rear engine lifting eyes.

- Install the other components of the engine support bridge (10 - 222 A) as illustrated; when doing this, place the (10 - 222 A /19) on the notches in the longitudinal members.






- Slide the support (T40091/2) into both connectors (T40093/4) with slide (T40093/5).

Risk of accident due to loose supporting elements.

Secure support (T40091/2) with connector pins and splints (T40093/4).

- Install the (T10014) into the hole in the ribbed belt tensioning element.






- Remove eyelet for the (2024 A).

- Install the bolt - 1 - into the center hole in the engine sling and secure it with a cotter pin.






- Attach the engine sling bolt to the front spindle of the engine support bridge.

- Install the bracket (2024 A/1) to the left side of the engine sling.

- Attach the (2024 A) to the front right engine lifting eye and to the (T10014).

Risk of accident due to unsecured engine sling.

Secure the mounting hooks and pins on the engine support bridge using securing pins - arrows -.

- Raise engine until engine supports are above engine bracket threaded pins and evenly tension both spindles to achieve even weight distribution.

- Place the (V.A.G 1383 A) under the subframe.






The subframe could cause an accident if it is not secured.

Do not loosen the subframe bolts - 1 and 2 -.








- Remove the bolts - 4 - and carefully lower the subframe with the (V.A.G 1383 A).

- Remove the engine carrier bolts - 3 - and place the engine carrier on the subframe.

- Disconnect the connector on the oil level thermal sensor (G266) - 1 -.






- Remove the bolts and loosen the lower oil pan - arrow -.

Risk of contamination from the engine oil.

Hold the lower oil pan horizontally to prevent any remaining oil from running out.

Installing

Replace the bolts for the lower oil pan.

Risk of eye injury.

Wear protective eyewear.

- Using rotating plastic brush, remove any remaining sealant from lower section of oil pan and upper section.






- Clean the sealing surfaces; they must be free of oil and grease.

Note the expiration date of the sealing compound.

- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter approximately 1.5 mm).






The lubrication system could be plugged with excess sealant.

Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.

- Apply a sealant bead - arrow - to the clean sealing surface on the lower section of the oil pan as shown in illustration.






Thickness of sealant bead: 2.0 mm

Install the lower section of the oil pan within five minutes of applying the sealant.

- Position the lower section of the oil pan and tighten the bolts. Refer to => [ Lower Oil Pan, Tightening Specifications and Sequence ] Oil Pump and Lower Oil Pan Overview.






- Install the engine carrier. Refer to => [ Subframe Overview ] Subframe Overview.

- Install subframe.

- Install refrigerant lines.

- Install the front wheel housing liner.

- Install engine bracket. Refer to => [ Subframe Overview ] Subframe Overview.

- Install the air filter housing.

- Install the ribbed belt tensioner. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt Tensioner ] Service and Repair.

- Install stabilizer bar.

- Install the left coolant pipe. Refer to => [ Left Coolant Pipe ] Left Coolant Pipe.

- Fill engine oil and check oil level.
