Valve Cover: Service and Repair






Cylinder Head Cover

Removing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Ignition Coil Puller (T40039)

Hose Clip Pliers (V.A.G 1921)

- Disconnect the electrical connector on the mass airflow (MAF) sensor (G70) - 3 -.






- Open clips - 1 and 2 - and remove air guide hose from the MAF sensor.

- Remove front air intake connector on lock carrier - 4 -.

- Remove engine cover.

- Remove air guide hose - arrow - with the (V.A.G 1921).






- Remove the bolts - arrows -.






- Remove the ignition coils with power output stage.

- Disconnect the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) line from the cylinder head cover - 1 -.






- Remove valve housing from cylinder head cover - arrows -.

- Remove the crankcase ventilation line and heat shield from the turbocharger - 1 -.






- Disconnect the EVAP line to the turbocharger from the cylinder head cover - 2 -.

- Loosen the cylinder head cover starting from the outside and working toward the inside.

- Remove the cylinder head cover.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Cylinder Head Assembly Overview ] Cylinder Head Assembly Overview



Replace the cylinder head cover gaskets if they are damaged.

Observe tightening sequence for cylinder head cover, refer to => [ Cylinder Head Cover Tightening Sequence ] Cylinder Head Assembly Overview.

- Make sure the upper toothed belt guard is installed correctly.

- Install ignition coils with power output stage.
