Transmission Cooler: Service and Repair
ATF Pipes and Cooler, Cleaning
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)
• Protective Eyewear
Procedure
Before installing a replacement transmission, always clean out the Automatic Transmission Fluid(ATF) cooler and ATF pipes using compressed air (maximum 10 bar).
- Clean the following connections thoroughly: ATF pipe/transmission, ATF pipe/fluid temperature valve and ATF pipe/ATF cooler.
Wear protective eyewear.
- Place the (V.A.G 1782) under the transmission.
- Remove the bolt - 1 - and the ATF pipes from the fluid temperature valve - 2 -.
- Remove the ATF pipes from/to ATF cooler on the fluid temperature valve - 2 -. Counter-hold at the valve.
- Remove the ATF cooler and drain it. Refer to => [ ATF Pipes and Cooler ] Removal and Replacement.
- Remove the thermostat and clean the ATF cooler and ATF pipes with compressed air or rinse with ATF.
- Remove the bolt - arrow - and pull the ATF pipes out of the transmission.
- Attach a hose to one transmission/thermostat ATF pipe and secure it with a hose clamp. Hang the other end of the hose in a suitable container.
- Clear the ATF pipe with compressed air.
- Connect the hose to the other ATF pipe and repeat the procedure.
- Install the ATF pipes to the ATF cooler. Refer to => [ ATF Pipes and Cooler ] Removal and Replacement.
