Shift Cable: Description and Operation






Selector Lever Cable Overview






1 Selector Lever Cable

Do not bend.

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable ] Selector Lever Cable.

The selector lever cable must be replaced if the rubber grommet is damaged.

The ball socket and ball head must be free of oil and grease.

Make sure the rubber grommet for the selector lever cable is installed correctly inside the selector mechanism function unit lower section and it seals correctly.

Adjusting, refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting ] Service and Repair.

2 Retainer Plate

For the selector lever cable to the selector mechanism function unit.

3 Adjusting Bolt

13 Nm

For adjusting the selector lever cable.

4 Pin

The plastic retaining spring on the adjustment slide must lock the pin so that it cannot fall out.

5 Adjustment Slide

6 Selector Lever

The ball socket and ball head must be free of oil and grease.

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Selector Lever ] Selector Lever

7 Cable Bracket

For the selector lever cable.

8 Bolt

M6 - 9 Nm

M8 - 22 Nm

For securing the cable bracket to the transmission.

Size depends on the version.

9 Retainer Plate

For the selector lever cable to the cable bracket.

10 Bolt

M6 - 9 Nm

M8 - 22 Nm

For securing the cable bracket to the transmission.

Size depends on the version.

Selector Lever Cable Heat Shield Bolt Tightening Specification





- Tighten the bolts - arrows - to 9 Nm.

The heat shield for the 8-cylinder, 4.2L FSI engine is shown in the illustration.
